Unfortunately, Spain rejected the architect’s project, deciding that it was too “radical” and did not fit the city’s aesthetics.

La Rambla
Possibly the most famous landmark in the city and home of the Christopher Columbus monument, this vibrant pedestrianised street in the heart of Barcelona will entertain the whole family. Live performances, human statues, street artists, shops, restaurants and cafés can be found all the way along this 1.2 km tree-lined stretch – just be aware of pickpockets!
Parc de la Ciutadella
A visit to a park is a guaranteed way for children to let off steam, and there are plenty of opportunities for this in Barcelona. In particular, Parc de la Ciutadella features everything you could ask for – fountains, a boating lake, museums, play areas, gardens, huge expanses of grass and Zoo de Barcelona. And don’t miss the huge statue of the woolly mammoth!

Hop aboard the city’s cable cars and mountain trains
Travel up the famous Montjuic and Tibidabo hills and be rewarded with spectacular city and coastal views. Both children and adults enjoy the novelty of travelling by the 2 cable cars and 3 mountain trains (funiculars) which are on offer. Montjuic is also home to several Olympic venues including the stadium, swimming pool and diving pool; and at the top of Tibidabo, you will find the old-fashioned Ferris wheel and funfair.
