Why Pine Cliffs Resort is One of the Best Family Resorts in the Algarve
There are certain places you visit that just work, where everything feels easy, well thought through, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone, and for me, Pine Cliffs Resort is exactly that. I spent a summer here with my family a couple of years ago, and it’s one of those resorts that I recommend without hesitation.
From the moment you arrive and see the red cliffs dropping into the Atlantic, you get that immediate sense of being somewhere special, but without any of the formality that can sometimes come with it.
What I love most is that it doesn’t feel like a typical hotel. The resort is spread out across beautiful pine-filled grounds, so it feels spacious, relaxed, and almost like a small village rather than a single property. You have multiple pools, restaurants, walking paths, and direct access down to Praia da Falésia, which quickly becomes part of your daily rhythm.
Where Pine Cliffs really stands out, though, is in its accommodation. If you’re travelling as a couple or with younger children and want something simple, the hotel rooms and suites are elegant and comfortable, with a slightly more classic feel and lovely views across the gardens or out to the ocean. That said, for families, the apartments are without question the way to go—and a big part of why I rate this resort so highly.
The apartments give you space to properly settle in, with separate bedrooms, generous living areas, and fully equipped kitchens, which makes a huge difference on a longer stay. Having a terrace or balcony, somewhere to relax in the evenings, and practical touches like laundry facilities just makes everything feel easy. It’s that ideal balance, you have the independence of your own space, but all the benefits of a full-service resort right on your doorstep. Some areas feel a little more central and lively, while others are quieter and more tucked away, so it’s easy to tailor the stay depending on what suits you.
Days here fall into a very easy rhythm. Mornings tend to start slowly, breakfast, followed by time at the pool or down on the beach, before everyone naturally drifts off into their own thing. One of the highlights for families is how well catered for children are. The kids’ facilities are genuinely impressive, and it’s the kind of place where they’re more than happy disappearing off to clubs or activities, which in turn gives adults proper time to switch off.
For adults, there’s plenty to balance that out. You have the clifftop golf course, tennis courts, a beautiful spa if you’re in need of something slower-paced, and a really good choice of restaurants depending on your mood, anything from relaxed lunches by the beach to more polished dinners in the evening. It never feels repetitive, which is key when you’re staying for a week or more.
In the summer months, the whole resort takes on a slightly more vibrant feel. There’s a real atmosphere in the evenings, with live music, events, and a steady buzz around the restaurants and bars, but it never tips into feeling busy or overwhelming. It manages that balance incredibly well lively when you want it, but always with space to step away and relax.
Overall, Pine Cliffs is one of those rare resorts that gets the balance right. It works brilliantly for families, especially if you’re travelling with children or across generations, but it never feels like it’s only for families. There’s enough space, variety, and quality throughout that everyone finds their own pace. It’s somewhere I would return to without question, and one I recommend time and time again for anyone looking for an easy, high-quality stay in the Algarve.
