Kandy Tooth Relic temple in Sri Lanka!

06 July 2023

Sri Lanka is my homeland and Kandy holds a special place in my heart, with wonderful memories growing up in Sri Lanka. My husband Nigel and I love visiting the tooth relic temple in Kandy regularly. Kandy is a beautiful city nestled amid the scenic hills of Sri Lanka. Known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and awe-inspiring landmarks, Kandy promises an enchanting escape that will leave an indelible mark on your soul. Join me as I unravel the timeless beauty and mystique of this remarkable destination, with a special focus on the revered Tooth Relic Temple. Steeped in tradition and hailed as the cultural capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy offers a diverse tapestry of influences that have shaped its unique identity. The city proudly preserves its heritage, allowing you to witness captivating rituals, indulge in traditional cuisine, and immerse yourself in the warmth and hospitality of its people. The streets come alive with vibrant festivals, such as the Esala Perahera, a grand procession celebrating the sacred Tooth Relic. At the heart of Kandy lies the magnificent Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, locally known as Sri Dalada Maligawa. This revered UNESCO World Heritage site houses the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha, making it one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. As you step into its hallowed grounds, be prepared to be mesmerized by the intricate architecture, serene ambience, and spiritual fervour that permeates every inch. Witness the daily rituals, listen to the melodic chants, and let the temple's tranquillity wash over you, leaving you with a profound sense of peace. Beyond the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy boasts a wealth of historical treasures that will transport you back in time. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace of Kandy, also known as the Royal Palace of the Last King of Sri Lanka. Marvel at the architectural grandeur and explore the royal artefacts displayed within. For art enthusiasts, the National Museum of Kandy is a must-visit, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage. Surrounded by lush greenery and mist-clad hills, Kandy is a nature lovers' paradise. Take a leisurely stroll around the serene Kandy Lake, known as the heart of the city, and witness breathtaking sunsets that paint the sky in vivid hues. For a deeper connection with nature, venture into the royal botanical gardens in Peradeniya, just a short distance from Kandy. Lose yourself in the vibrant colours of blooming flowers and marvel at the diverse collection of tropical plants. No Travel experience is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and Kandy offers a delightful array of flavours to savour. Treat your taste buds to traditional Sri Lankan dishes, such as fiery curries, string hoppers, and mouthwatering desserts. Don't forget to visit the bustling Kandy market, where the tantalizing aromas of exotic spices and fresh produce will awaken your senses. Kandy with its captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, in my view, is one of the "must visits" on a trip to Sri Lanka.

Unforgettable Encounters: A tale of a 120-year-old turtle and responsible travel in Seychelles. Greetings, fellow travellers and nature enthusiasts! I want to share a remarkable experience that I had a few years ago during my visit to the breathtaking Seychelles. As the owner of a travel service business, it is my passion to explore eco-friendly destinations and promote responsible travel. And what better way to do that than by encountering the magnificent Turtles of Seychelles? Picture This: Azure waters, powdery white sands, and lush greenery all around. It was on this paradise-like backdrop that I found myself face to face with a true marvel of nature-the legendary 120-year-old turtle. Yes, you read that correctly! This ancient reptile has witnessed the passing of time and carried the wisdom of a century within its wrinkled shell. Seychelles with its commitment to preserving its pristine environment, is a haven for these gentle giants. It has become renowned as a leading eco-friendly destination, providing a sanctuary for various species of turtles that calls its shores home. Through sustainable practices and responsible tourism initiatives, Seychelles has successfully protected these magnificent creatures and their natural habitats. Responsible travel lies at the core of our values as travellers and industry professionals. It is our duty to preserve the beauty of our planet and its diverse ecosystems for future generations to enjoy. By choosing eco-friendly destinations like Seychelles, we contribute to sustainable tourism and support the conservation efforts that safeguard endangered species like turtles. So what can we do to ensure our travel experiences align with responsible tourism? Here are a few simple steps we can take: 1) Minimize waste: Reduce, reuse, and recycle during your travels. Carry a reusable water bottle, and say no to single-use plastics, and dispose of your waste responsibly. Keeping our destination clean and free from pollution is essential for the survival of marine life, including turtles. 2) Respect wildlife: When encountering turtles or any other wildlife, maintain a safe distance and never disturb them, it ensures their well-being and preserves their natural behaviours. 3) Support conservation efforts: Consider supporting local organizations and initiatives dedicated to protecting turtles and their habitats. By contributing to these causes, we can make a lasting impact and ensure the preservation of these incredible creatures. Remember that responsible travel is not only about minimizing our negative impact, it's also about actively contributing to the well-being of the places we visit. By choosing eco-friendly accommodations, engaging in community-based tourism activities, and respecting local cultures and traditions, we can leave a positive footprint wherever we go. My encounter with the 120-year-old turtle in Seychelles was a humbling experience-an encounter that reminded me of the resilience and beauty of our natural world. Let us strive to be responsible travellers, cherishing the wonders of our planet and safeguarding its treasures for future generations. Together, we can create a future where stunning creations like the Seychelles turtles continue to thrive, inspiring awe and wonder in the hearts of travellers for years to come.
