Thinking about Japan for late 2025 or 2026? Now’s the time to start planning

15 April 2025

Why early planning is essential; and how I helped one couple create a seamless, culturally rich holiday with just the right balance. Japan has always been a dream destination for many. But with new changes being introduced by 2026 including increased tourist taxes, changes to the JR Pass, and dual pricing for attractions, it’s one of those countries where planning ahead is no longer just a good idea. It’s essential! I’ve already had Japan enquiries into late 2026, and for good reason. Availability for peak seasons is tightening, and the logistics (while exciting) can be intricate. Japan rewards the well-prepared! I recently planned a trip for a busy professional couple who wanted to experience Japan in a way that was personal, meaningful, and stress-free. They didn’t have the time to figure it all out themselves, but they knew they wanted someone who had been before and who would think through every detail. Here’s what they were looking for: • A bit of everything: temples, nature, iconic sights, and space to just wander • High-quality hotels (with hotel gyms - a rarity in Japan!) • Local food experiences for the husband, who’s a real foodie • A seamless experience, with transport and logistics handled • Comfort, cultural depth, and flexibility in the schedule We started with a call to talk through their travel style and preferences. I explained how transport works, how bedding configurations vary from what we’re used to in the UAE, and how key items like the JR Pass must be purchased in advance and activated in person with a passport. Tokyo We chose Keio Plaza Hotel for its excellent location and on-site gym. I also included a 72-hour subway pass to make local travel simple. We talked through using public transport, which is essential for navigating Japan efficiently. The couple were happy with this, and it’s one of those things that really helps the overall experience run smoothly. Hakone They hadn’t heard of Hakone until I mentioned it, but once I explained the appeal (mountain scenery, hot springs, and traditional ryokan accommodation) it quickly became a highlight of the itinerary! We selected Ten-yu, a beautiful ryokan where they’ll enjoy authentic Japanese hospitality on half board. I guided them through what to expect, including some cultural etiquette: ryokans almost always have twin beds, and onsens are typically used without swimwear. I contacted the property to check if there was an option for modesty and found out that while swimwear isn’t allowed, they do offer special bathing wear that can be borrowed. It’s also important to note that tattoos are usually not permitted in onsens, which I made them aware of from the outset. Kyoto In Kyoto, they’ll stay at The Thousand Kyoto. A modern hotel in a fantastic location. I’ve suggested a few excursions to help them explore some lesser-known temples and peaceful spots off the usual trail, while still leaving plenty of time for unstructured wandering. Osaka We finished with Swissôtel Nankai Osaka. It’s right above Namba Station (super convenient for heading back to the airport), and it also has a gym - again, something I had to specifically search for, as it’s not a given in Japan. As with many hotels and ryokans in Japan, twin beds are the standard setup. This can surprise travellers who expect king beds everywhere. For this couple, twin beds were fine in Hakone, but we specifically booked king rooms for their other hotel stays; an important detail that needs to be requested and reserved. I also: • Arranged their JR Pass and explained the activation process (passport required!) • Suggested excursions in each city, while building in flexibility for slow mornings or spontaneous finds • Will be sharing food recommendations before they go • Ensured all their documentation and plans are accessible via their myTC app • Will provide 24/7 support for anything that comes up during their trip They now have everything in place without the hours of research or uncertainty. Their trip is designed around them, with expert knowledge, thoughtful planning, and a few special touches. If Japan is on your list for 2025 or 2026, now is the time to start planning. The earlier we begin, the more options you’ll have, and the more relaxed the whole experience will feel. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat about it. Having been to Japan myself and absolutely loved it, I’d be happy to help you create something truly special!

Planning the perfect Maldives escape

13 November 2024

The Maldives is a bucket list destination for so many, and for good reason. Those overwater villas, turquoise lagoons, and serene beaches make it a paradise that everyone dreams about. But with literally hundreds of resorts, each offering different experiences, meal plans, and room types, getting it right is essential. I say this as someone who’s learned from experience. Before becoming a travel specialist, I booked my own Maldives trip, thinking I’d covered everything. The property was beautiful, but there were details I’d overlooked, especially around transfers. In the Maldives, transfer costs can be as high as 400 USD per person, and it’s easy to miss these when doing your own research. Now, I make sure my clients know exactly what to expect and that all transfer details are fully covered from the start, so there are no surprises along the way. Every planning process begins with a call to the client. I like to get a clear picture of who’s travelling, everyone’s ages, and the type of experience they’re after. Many people assume the Maldives is just about lying on a beach, but there are some incredibly lively resorts with packed schedules of activities. So, I find out if they’re after something quiet and peaceful or a bit more active, and then we talk about their budget. For meal plans, I’ll usually recommend all-inclusive unless clients specifically don’t want to do activities or drink alcohol. All-inclusive lets you enjoy the full resort experience without worrying about added costs. Once we’ve chosen the resort, it’s time to look at flights. We’re lucky in the UAE to have multiple options, from Emirates and FlyDubai in Dubai to Air Arabia in Sharjah and Etihad and Wizz Air from Abu Dhabi. There’s something to suit every budget. But timing is essential. If your resort requires a seaplane or a domestic flight plus a boat, your international flight needs to land in Malé before 3 p.m.—I suggest aiming for 2 p.m., to be safe. Seaplanes don’t operate after 3 p.m., so a late arrival could mean an unexpected overnight stay in Malé. Little details like this are what make the difference in creating a smooth experience. When it’s time to finalise, I double-check all passport details—believe it or not, people sometimes spell their own names wrong! For the Maldives, having accurate passport information is especially important, given the number of flights and transfers involved. Once everything’s confirmed, I stay in touch with the client right up to their departure. About 48 hours before arrival, transfer details are finalised, and I update them via WhatsApp on exactly what to expect, both on arrival in Malé and when they depart the resort for their return flight. This way, they can focus on packing and looking forward to a worry-free holiday. If the Maldives is calling you, let’s make it everything you’ve dreamed of—and more!

How I help families plan their dream luxury holidays

30 October 2024

Planning a holiday for a special occasion should be exciting, not stressful. I love helping families organise trips that are not only unforgettable but perfectly suited to them. Recently, I worked with a family planning a holiday for a big birthday celebration, and I thought I’d take you through how we made it all happen, step by step! Step 1: Getting to Know You and Your Family Every trip I plan starts with a good chat. This family wanted to do something really special for the mum’s big birthday next year. To make sure it would be a holiday they’d all enjoy, I asked some key questions: • Where has she always dreamed of going? • Where have you been before as a family? • What does she enjoy doing on holiday? • What about the kids—how old are they, and what do they love to do? • What kind of accommodation do you all prefer? • And of course, what’s your budget? These questions help me get a really clear idea of what’s important to the family. The aim is to make sure that everyone is going to have a great time, whether they’re lounging by the pool or off exploring new places. Step 2: Coming Up with Ideas Once I had all the info, I put together a few suggestions. Initially, we thought about combining Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mauritius. But after learning they’d done a safari in Kenya the previous year, we decided to remove Botswana and focus on a different plan. The idea was to fly from Victoria Falls to Mauritius, but this required a one-night stopover in Johannesburg, which the family wasn’t too keen on. That’s when Namibia came into the mix. After a chat about their interest in something new, I got in touch with my trusted suppliers in Victoria Falls and Namibia. They came back with a fantastic 3-day itinerary in Namibia that optimised the family’s time, and the best part? We could now route their flight from Windhoek to Mauritius with just a quick connection in Johannesburg—no overnight stay needed! It was the perfect solution, giving the family more time to enjoy their adventure without the hassle of a long stopover. Step 3: Working Out the Details With the destination decided, it was time to dive into the finer details. I work closely with local partners (the people on the ground who know the best spots and hidden gems) to make sure the itinerary is just right. We ended up planning a 12-day trip that took them from the amazing Victoria Falls to Namibia, then finishing off in Mauritius. It was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation, with gorgeous villa-style accommodation at each stop. Step 4: Finalising the Activities Once the main itinerary was in place, we focused on choosing the activities for each destination. In Namibia, the family will enjoy a city and township tour to experience the local culture, followed by a visit to a craft market to pick up unique souvenirs. The highlight will be a game drive at Okapuka Safari Lodge, where they’ll have the chance to spot some incredible wildlife. For Victoria Falls, we included a guided tour of the falls and a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. And in Mauritius, it’ll be all about relaxation, with the option for snorkelling, water sports, or simply unwinding on the beach. These activities were carefully selected to ensure that everyone in the family has something they’ll enjoy, while making sure there’s plenty of time to relax and take in the special moments. Step 5: Final Questions and Travel Insurance Before the final booking, the client had a few more questions—things like confirming flight times and double-checking some of the activities. I always encourage clients to ask as many questions as they need. After all, it’s their holiday, and I want them to feel completely confident with the plan! One thing I never skip is recommending travel insurance, especially for big trips like this one. It’s a small extra step, but it really helps protect the family from any unexpected surprises. Step 6: Getting Ready to Go and My Support Throughout With the trip all set, I uploaded everything to the myTC app, where they could easily see their itinerary, flight details, and all the other important info. This makes it super easy for them to keep track of everything, so there’s no digging through emails or worrying about lost paperwork. And, of course, I’m always available before, during, and after their trip. I check in to make sure they’re happy with everything, and if they need anything during the holiday, I’m just a call away. Conclusion Planning a luxury family holiday isn’t just about picking a destination. It’s about finding out what makes your family tick and designing a trip that’s perfectly suited to everyone’s tastes. By working closely with my clients and trusted local partners, I make sure every detail is thought through so the whole experience is smooth and stress-free. If you’re thinking about a special holiday for your family, I’m here to make sure the whole process is enjoyable, from start to finish.

Mauritius: A luxurious family paradise

25 August 2024

Close your eyes and think of Mauritius. What do you see? A beautiful tropical island? Beachside resorts? Palm trees? I had pictured all of these (quite rightly too), however, there is so much more to Mauritius than I ever imagined. It offers luxury, tranquillity, beauty, and fun for all the family with an abundance of activities to suit all. Only a 6-and-a-half-hour flight direct from Dubai (and in the same time zone), it’s super accessible too. It’s the perfect destination for a luxury family escape. I was grateful to be invited on a recent ‘fam’ (familiarisation) trip, organised by dnata and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. The purpose was to explore and review top-tier resorts and family-friendly activities. We stayed 4 nights at 3 different properties. We also had the opportunity to carry out site inspections at the Four Seasons, Long Beach, The Residence and La Pirogue. I’m well-positioned to give you a review of each of these, depending on your preferred hotel style, location and budget. La Plantation d’Albion Club Med: The welcome from the team was quite special, greeting us with champagne on arrival. It’s a luxurious all-inclusive resort known for its spacious accommodations, lush tropical gardens, and stunning ocean views. The resort offers a wide range of activities, from watersports to golf, making it perfect for families. The kids' club and dedicated family areas ensure that everyone has something to enjoy, while the adults-only zen zone provides a peaceful retreat. Sugar Beach: Sugar Beach is a lively and stylish resort, perfectly blending modern comfort with Mauritian hospitality. The resort’s vibrant atmosphere is complemented by its prime location along the stunning Flic en Flac beach, one of the best on the island. We enjoyed some great dining experiences at the Buddha Bar, where the vibe was unmatched, and enjoyed ‘easy sips’ by the pool. ‘Easysips’ is a lovely concept where the group enjoy non-alcoholic options together first, before going into the cocktails. Their drinks selection is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The resort's relaxed yet energetic ambience, along with its variety of amenities, makes it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and entertainment. Maradiva Villas: The epitome of luxury and exclusivity. This resort offers private, spacious villas, each with its own pool, surrounded by lush tropical gardens. The ambience is tranquil and serene, perfect for couples seeking a romantic escape. The service is impeccable, and the resort's commitment to personalised experiences makes every guest feel like a VIP. Maradiva is the ultimate in luxury, offering a secluded and intimate environment that is perfect for unwinding and recharging. The range of activities in Mauritius, both urban and rural, is impressive. Our first morning was spent exploring Port Louis on a street food tour with Taste Buddies. Ashvin, our guide, shared the island's rich history through humour and storytelling while we indulged in local delicacies like dholl roti and Napolitaine. We also visited the mosque, Chinatown, and the lush Les Jardins De La Compagnie. The next experience was an unforgettable helicopter ride across the island, offering breathtaking views, including the famous ‘underwater’ waterfall. At Chamarel, the stunning waterfall and the seven-coloured earth geopark were highlights, especially for a geography enthusiast like me. For those less keen on geology, the café and tortoise observation area provide a delightful alternative. La Vallée des Couleurs offers thrilling adventures like the 1.5km zipline, the longest in the Indian Ocean, perfect for both kids and adults. At Casela Nature Park, we enjoyed close encounters with wildlife, a thrilling ride on the Tulawaka Gold coaster, and a peaceful lunch surrounded by peacocks. Overall, Mauritius is just a stunning country with a great selection of luxury hotels to choose from. Fun for all the family and so easy to get around. The weather in July and August is beautiful. Mauritius has it all and is perfect for families seeking luxury and adventure. I can help you craft the perfect itinerary. Luxury escape to Koh Samui and Krabi: Tips and tricks

20 August 2024

After a decade of being tied to school holidays as a teacher, this year I finally embraced off-peak travel. Over my birthday week in June, which coincided with Eid Al Fitr, we headed to Koh Samui and Krabi in Thailand—a perfect way for Tom to maximise his annual leave. To keep our trip luxurious yet budget-conscious, we booked a return flight from Dubai to Krabi on flydubai and then flew domestically with Bangkok Airways to Samui. While not a direct connection, it was manageable and even offered a coffee stop at The Coffee Club in Krabi airport – a popular chain in Dubai! Alternatively, you could fly to Phuket on Air Arabia from Sharjah, and then take a domestic flight to Samui, giving you more flexibility with transfer times. It’s important to be aware of these options you need to clear immigration, collect your luggage and re-check in for your next flight with enough time to spare. It worked well for us and was a great cost-saver. In Koh Samui, we stayed at the stunning Anantara Lawana. The resort, designed like a traditional Samui village, was so relaxing and green. Our Anantara Pool Suite, complete with a private terrace and plunge pool, was perfect for an afternoon nap after exploring Chaweng’s beaches. The property’s main infinity pool is magical at twilight, and dinner at the Crab Shack was a comforting end to a travel-filled day. For families, there’s a great kids’ club, and older kids might love the Muay Thai boxing classes and watersports on offer. The property is perfectly located just 10 minutes from the airport and equidistant from Chaweng Beach and Bo Phut Beach. Chaweng Beach is suited to young couples and is quite lively in terms of nightlife. Bo Phut Beach and Fisherman’s Village are more suited to families, with a great selection of casual beachside restaurants and fire shows to enjoy. We also visited Samui Elephant Haven, a sanctuary known for its ethical practices. Our half-day tour was educational and heartwarming, as we fed the elephants and watched them enjoy the pool—no forced bathing here. It provides fun for all the family. Making the elephants healthy snacks and feeding them was a real highlight for me. A tip: visit in the morning when it’s cooler and quieter. After four days in Samui, we took a quick flight to Krabi, where we stayed at the Sofitel. This large, colonial-style resort was rustic and had a massive pool, perfect for kids, complete with an inflatable obstacle course! The Sofitel also offers luxury boat excursions, so you don’t have to venture far for an adventure. Although our plans for a boat trip to the Phi Phi Islands were rained out by a storm, we made the most of it with afternoon tea at the Banyan Tree and cocktails at the elegant Explorer Bar. The Ao Nang Landmark Night Market in Krabi provides an energetic atmosphere in the evening, with plenty of street food to choose from and local bands to enjoy. Tom was happy that the band we saw played a couple of Linkin Park songs – his favourite! In summary, Thailand offers a variety of flight options from the UAE and something for everyone. The Anantara Lawana in Samui is beautiful, and while the Sofitel in Krabi is lovely, it could use a little refresh. If you’re looking for a luxurious family holiday with plenty of activities and relaxation, Thailand has it all. Whether you want an activity-filled getaway or a relaxing retreat in luxury surroundings, I’m here to expertly curate your perfect holiday. Let’s plan your dream trip today—reach out to start your journey.

Your guide to UAE Staycations

19 August 2024

The easy and free valet parking. The luggage is being brought up to your room for you, even if you have just 1 small bag. The spacious rooms. The complimentary sunglasses cleaning around the pool. The ice lollies. The chair for your handbag at dinner. There are several benefits to staycation in the UAE. An abundance of luxury hotels is within a short driving distance from wherever you are in the country. No long flights, no travel stress, and the opportunity to explore the UAE’s hidden gems! Spend your quality time at the weekend with your family. At the lazy river, the swim-up bar, or having fun on the water. We’re lucky to be able to create such precious memories by living here! While you might not think you need a travel agent for a staycation, I can still curate personalised experiences for you. Perhaps you’re thinking of popping the question or organising a birthday surprise for a loved one? Maybe you want the finer details about activities available for kids? Working here in the travel industry connects me with the sales teams at all the luxury hotels, who I’ve built professional relationships with. This means I can tailor your staycation experience to make it even more special. Here are some of my favourites: Intercontinental Ras al Khaimah: The Ultimate Family Getaway With exclusive Travel Counsellors contracted rates available for both half-board and all-inclusive packages, you’ll have access to six incredible restaurants and bars, making dining a breeze. This expansive resort is packed with amenities for everyone—whether you're travelling with little ones, teens, or just seeking some adult relaxation. Kids and teens will love the Planet Trekkers kids’ club, open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, offering endless entertainment. Every room in the resort is sea-facing, ensuring stunning views at every turn. My personal favourite? The large swimming pool is complete with a swim-up bar, perfect for a refreshing dip. Tennis courts, water sports, and easy buggy access (a lifesaver in the summer heat) make this resort a standout for family fun. Ritz-Carlton Grand Canal, Abu Dhabi: Cultural Luxury with a View For a luxurious escape with a cultural twist, the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi is a top pick. Inspired by Venetian architecture, this resort offers breathtaking views of the Grand Mosque. Despite staying over Eid Al Fitr when the hotel was at full capacity, it never felt crowded—a testament to its thoughtful design and spacious layout. One of the highlights of our stay was the full-board dine-around option, allowing us to enjoy different cuisine each night. From exquisite steak at The Forge to Asian delicacies with Grand Mosque views at Li Jiang, every meal was delicious. After dinner, we enjoyed a nightcap at Sorso bar, where a talented blues band played. The resort also offers free cabana use by the pool, with an adults-only pool available for a quieter retreat. Padel courts and a full-size football pitch add to the array of activities, but the highlight for me was the impeccable service and stunning views of the Grand Mosque. Park Hyatt Dubai: Your Urban Oasis Nestled on the Deira side of Dubai Creek, the Park Hyatt Dubai is a tranquil escape that feels miles away from the city’s hustle and bustle. The lush greenery and beautifully designed property create a secluded retreat atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for relaxation. Sunsets here are simply breathtaking, with the city skyline providing a stunning backdrop. The breakfast is a highlight, offering both buffet and à la carte options to suit every taste. Whether you’re lounging by the main pool or enjoying the Twiggy infinity pool with Creek views, the Mediterranean-inspired design adds an elegant touch everywhere you look. Anantara The Palm Dubai: A Lagoon Paradise For those seeking a luxurious escape with a family close to home with lots of fun activities, Anantara the Palm Dubai is the place to be. Located on the iconic Palm Jumeirah, this resort boasts 400 meters of private shoreline and stunning views of the Arabian Gulf, offering the perfect blend of beachside relaxation and city excitement. The lagoon-access rooms are a unique feature, allowing you to float right outside your door. The resort is also home to the UAE’s first overwater villas, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to your stay. The spa’s hammam rituals are a must-try for ultimate relaxation, while the on-site dining options are top-notch. I particularly enjoyed celebrating my birthday with dinner at Mekong, and the Crescendo brunch on Saturdays is a family-friendly feast with a view. Why Book Your Staycation with Me? Incredible Japan: My itinerary and top tips

16 April 2024

Japan is a country of contrasts, where ancient traditions meet cutting-edge technology, and bustling cities seamlessly blend with serene natural landscapes. From the vibrant streets of Tokyo to the historic temples of Kyoto, every corner of Japan offers a unique experience. In this blog post, I reflect on my itinerary and share some insider tips for making the most of your time in Japan. Day 1: Osaka - A Foodie Paradise. Kick-start your Japanese adventure in Osaka, known for its mouthwatering cuisine and lively nightlife. We explored the bustling streets of the Shinsaibashi area, which really reminded me of London foodie markets. Don't miss a visit to Osaka Castle, a historic landmark that offers panoramic views of the city. Day 2: Koyasan – Get off the beaten track and experience the holiest Buddhist site in Japan. Take a scenic train and a funicular ride to the top of Mount Koya. Spend the night in a monastery and witness the monks' morning prayers at dawn. We stayed at the Sekishoin temple right next to the Oku-no-in cemetery which was gorgeous to walk through in the snow. Experience a moment of tranquillity amidst the serene surroundings of Koyasan. Days 3-4: Hiroshima - Pay homage to the victims of the atomic bomb at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Explore the charming city of Hiroshima and take a short boat ride to Miyajima Island, home to the iconic Itsukushima Shrine and free-roaming deer. Don't forget to try the local speciality, okonomiyaki, a hidden gem of Hiroshima cuisine. This was absolutely my favourite meal of the whole trip! Some of the best sushi we’ve ever had was also in Hiroshima. Days 5-6: Kyoto - Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan. Wander through the narrow streets of Gion, the geisha district, and admire the beauty of the bamboo forest. Watch a maiko (geisha apprentice) performance to learn more about this fascinating career and lifestyle. Visit the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine and walk through hundreds of torii gates. Day 7: Hakone - Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and unwind in the tranquil hot springs of Hakone. Take a cable car ride across the Hakone Volcano and soak in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Treat yourself to a traditional Japanese ryokan experience and rejuvenate your body and soul in the soothing waters of an onsen, a natural steaming hot spring. Days 8-9: Tokyo - End your journey in Tokyo, the bustling metropolis that never sleeps. Explore the vibrant neighbourhoods of Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Akihabara, and immerse yourself in the city's vibrant culture. Don't miss the chance to visit iconic landmarks such as the Tokyo Skytree, Senso-ji Temple, and the Meiji Shrine. Purchase a 72-hour tourist metro ticket for ease of transport on the metro. Just bring your passport along to the tourist office underground at Tokyo Main Station. Now for some quick DOs and DON'Ts: DO: -Take public transport everywhere, especially from the airport you land at into the city centre. The trains are fast, efficient and well-priced. Buy your JR pass in advance! -Use the luggage-forwarding services provided by hotels. No hassle of having to cart around heavy bags between cities. It will be there waiting for you in your next city! -Consider visiting outside of peak season (March-April) during the cherry blossom, or, Sakura. We went in February and witnessed plum blossom which was also beautiful. DON'T: -Forget to have a translating app downloaded at the ready. The first time you'll need it? To understand the toilet flush symbols upon landing! -Bring a lot of luggage. The bullet trains (Shinkansen) are very comfortable because they're not overcrowded with heavy luggage. -Tip! Tipping is not part of the culture in Japan. You will receive very strange looks if you try to tip! Japan is a country that inspires. From its historic temples to its modern skyscrapers, there's something for everyone to discover in this fascinating land. Send me an email or a DM to start planning your own Japanese adventure today and experience the magic of Japan for yourself. Arigato, Japan. I will be back!

Reflections on a 'fam' trip to Cyprus

01 April 2024

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to go on a familiarisation trip to Limassol in Cyprus, exploring its rich variety of cuisine, stunning landscapes, and luxurious accommodations. From Dubai, you can fly on Cyprus Airways directly three times per week to Larnaca with great rates and is approximately 4 hours each way. Upon arrival in Cyprus, we were greeted by the warm Mediterranean sun even though it was still only the end of March. We were hosted by the exquisite and recently opened City of Dreams integrated resort and casino. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the stunning Troodos Mountains, this luxurious hotel offered a perfect blend of Middle Eastern hospitality and European flair. I’d always considered Cyprus a destination for British families seeking some summer sun in Paphos. I quickly learned that the City of Dreams in Limassol really has something for everyone! For adults seeking relaxation and an upscale escape, the chic pool bar at Anaïs and the lavish casino provided ample opportunities to unwind and indulge. Families were equally catered to with a kids’ club and adventure park for teens, ensuring every member of the family had a memorable experience. The spacious rooms at City of Dreams were comfortable and elegant, with thoughtful touches paying homage to the local culture, such as bathroom toiletries inspired by the fragrant orange groves that dot the landscape. After a day of exploration, guests could rejuvenate body and mind at the Renu Spa, boasting a sauna, steam room, and cold plunge pool as well as six treatment rooms. During our time in Limassol, we had the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, from the historic Colossi Castle to the picturesque village of Omodos. A visit to the monastery provided a glimpse into Cyprus's religious heritage, while Limassol Marina buzzed with locals celebrating Greek Independence Day. A highlight of the trip was our excursion to the Troodos Mountains, where we visited the Ktima Gerolemo winery and sampled the flavours of local wines amid breathtaking scenery. The ancient ruins of Kurion offered a fascinating glimpse into Cyprus's rich history, while panoramic views from the mountain peaks provided us with stunning views of the island's natural beauty. In conclusion, my fam trip to Cyprus was a truly unforgettable experience, filled with fantastic cuisine, adventure, and relaxation. Cyprus truly is a destination that has something for everyone, and I cannot wait to return and explore more of the island. It’s a great gateway to the Greek islands, meaning you could tie it in with a bigger Mediterranean trip. If you’re looking for a Mediterranean getaway, reach out and let’s make plans. Yiamas!

Festive fun in the UK and Germany

29 December 2023

One thing I miss about living in the UK is spontaneous city breaks to Europe. Every journey back to the UK now is an opportunity for us to include a European city break into our travels. This time, our stop was in Stuttgart, a quaint German city, filled with festive Christmas markets, or as the locals call them, Weinachtsmarkt. While not as sprawling as some of its larger counterparts, Stuttgart was easy to navigate using its metro system. As a travel counsellor, a top tip I always give to clients is to download Google Maps for your destination so it’s available offline. It’s a great app to help you identify the best way around a European city on public transport. This alleviates the common travel-related stress of getting around in expensive taxis – often in Europe public transport is so much quicker and a more enjoyable and authentic experience than being sat in traffic! It was lovely to wander through the Weinachtsmarkt and to see the local people enjoying them as well tourists. There were a few to choose from of varying sizes around the city. Stuttgart itself is pedestrian-friendly, making strolling through the cobbled streets and smelling the aroma of mulled wine enjoyable. We discovered unique handcrafted souvenirs and tasted seasonal treats across the few markets we visited. Of course, visiting festive markets is the typical thing to do while on a German city break at Christmas time. Although they were lovely, I like finding hidden gems in each destination I visit, and love to pass this knowledge on to my clients. Therefore, after some digging, I found out that Stuttgart is home to the world’s first-ever TV tower, with the bonus of a cute café at the top! This was my personal highlight – seeing the city from above, and learning some history while enjoying a hot chocolate and a cake. The main purpose of this trip was for Tom to return to the small town of Reutlingen, south of Stuttgart, where he lived for several months. Although it’s a very quiet little town, we enjoyed its Weinachtsmarkt and even saw a local band performing festive songs. In addition, we conquered a Guinness World Record only found in Reutlingen – home to the narrowest street in the world (a record you certainly wouldn’t find in Dubai)! Every town no matter how big or small has a hidden gem. I’ll find these for you! From Stuttgart, we jetted off to London, our previous home city of several years. We couldn't resist revisiting familiar haunts in Tooting, south London, especially the old pubs and markets we used to frequent. The local hangouts we frequented welcomed us warmly, offering delicious curries from the curry houses that have been stalwarts on the high street for decades now in Tooting. Of course, we also spent time in the more ‘touristy’ parts of London, having fun with friends at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, seeing Nicole Scherzinger take the lead in the West End show ‘Sunset Boulevard’ and enjoying a night of festive music at the Sky Garden. Everywhere was buzzing, full of locals and tourists soaking up the Christmas atmosphere. London is so special at Christmas. I really recommend and encourage you to be organised with your itinerary, especially if you want to see a show. Booking your trains in advance is key if you’re staying elsewhere – I can book these for you and with all my years of experience living in London, can recommend the best-suited locations for your hotel. The final leg of our festive journey took us to Sheffield, where Tom is from. The Sheffield Wednesday fan in him loved the footy action at Hillsborough, especially when they scored a very late winner after being 1-0 down against QPR. You can’t beat the atmosphere of a football game in the UK – there’s nowhere else like it. The camaraderie of fellow supporters and friends added to the excitement in the stadium. Our final stop was Bakewell in the Peak District. The picturesque landscapes of the gorgeous village provided a peaceful contrast to the energetic city scenes we’d come from. With Tom's family, we enjoyed the unexpected bright blue winter sky that day and the beauty of charming cafes serving the famous Bakewell tarts. We very much embraced our festive adventure even though it was a lot of travelling. My top tip for anyone is to pack lightly if you are thinking of doing something similar, in addition to booking national trains well in advance. It was great to be able to make the most of the London Underground and buses. I still believe London is home to the best public transport system in the world, due to being so user friendly, quick and affordable. If you’re planning a trip to the UK and want to immerse yourself in the culture or the beauty of the countryside, I can arrange these excursions for you. Travelling can be stressful, especially when it comes to navigating a new city or making sure your itinerary runs smoothly. As a Travel Counsellor, I handle all the logistics, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday without worrying about the details. Just as I planned our trip to seamlessly include a bit of everything, you can trust me to create a holiday that balances adventure and relaxation, tailored just for you and your family. Why should you use a Travel Counsellor?

18 October 2023

Planning and booking a seamless luxury holiday can be an exciting experience, but it can also be stressful and time-consuming. With so much information out there, and so many options available, deciding where to go, when to go and how to get there can feel overwhelming. You’ll be asking yourself questions like, ‘Does this hotel cater to parents and children?’, ‘What’s the best route for a multi-destination trip?’ and ‘Does the hotel provide extra beds?’ That's where I come in. I’m a travel industry professional offering expertly curated, seamless luxury holidays for peace of mind. For busy expat families in the UAE, holidays are possibly the most sacred time to spend together, so you want to be sure you’re well looked after! In this blog post, I explain how I can make the process of planning and booking a holiday a breeze with me. 1) I save you time and effort: I take care of all the details of your trip, from flights and accommodation to transfers, tours, and activities. This means you don't have to spend hours searching for the best deals, comparing prices, and reading reviews. I will do all of this for you and provide you with packaged-up options that meet your budget, preferences, and travel needs. I can also take care of any special requests or requirements you may have, such as dietary restrictions, accessibility needs, or specific experiences you want to have. Take my client Mithun, for example, who sought after a luxury wellness retreat. Through my industry connections, I found the perfect option for him. After a couple of days at the retreat, I received a message from him saying he felt like he was floating and couldn’t be happier. He returned to Dubai rejuvenated and left me this feedback: “Nicky took the time to understand my preferences and needs, curating a selection of options that perfectly matched what I was looking for. She handled all the logistics, from finding the perfect location to booking flights and accommodation. She also sorted out travel insurance and managed my budget”. 2) I provide expert advice and insider knowledge: Travel Counsellors has been operating since 1994. Extensive knowledge and industry relationships, allow me to keep up to date with the latest trends, news, and changes in the industry. I can offer you expert advice on destinations, accommodations, tours, and activities, based on my personal experience, feedback from my clients, and my professional network. I can also share insider knowledge and tips on how to get the most out of your holiday, such as where to eat, where to shop, what to avoid, and how to stay safe. This can help you save money, avoid common mistakes, and have a more authentic and enjoyable travel experience. Take Jane, for example, who’s first time in Jordan was ‘awesome’. In her words, she was ‘nothing but impressed. Hassan, our guide, and Mahmoud, our driver, are the absolute best company and we always felt extremely safe. It was an emotional goodbye’. 3) I offer personalised service and flexibility: Travel Counsellors have commercial relationships and partnerships with several providers. This means I can offer you a more personalised service and flexibility, and tailor your holiday to your specific needs and interests. I can also provide you with a range of options that suit your budget, preferences, and travel style, and help you navigate any changes or unexpected events that may occur during your trip. Whether you want a romantic getaway, a family vacation, a group tour, or a corporate trip, I can create a unique and memorable travel experience for you. 4) I provide value for money and peace of mind: You might be surprised to learn that using a Travel Counsellor can save you money. Thanks to special rates, promotions, and exclusive deals, I can offer you incredible value on your holiday. Beyond that, I provide added services like travel insurance, airport transfers, and pre-departure support, giving you peace of mind. From Teacher to Travel Counsellor

27 September 2023

Have you ever felt the pull of a career change? I'm Nicky, a former Head of Humanities at a British school here in Dubai, where I specialised in Geography and Travel and Tourism. Now, as a Travel Counsellor, I am privileged to follow my passion for travel full-time! This huge decision was driven by a deep desire for a more flexible lifestyle, where I could manage my time and responsibilities while pursuing my passion for travel. It felt like the perfect fit. With over 40 countries under my belt, my friends and family often comment on my meticulously crafted itineraries and so rely on me for their travel experiences! My teaching background certainly equips me to plan family-friendly, educational and enriching holidays. While I was teaching, I led many school trips of this nature including a three-week trip to Kenya, with sixteen teenagers from London. The planning involved ensuring safety and risk assessment, communication with in-country suppliers, and liaising with operators to tailor itineraries to certain age groups. Very similar to what I’ll be doing as a travel counsellor! I provide you with expertly curated, and seamless holidays. My experience of this in education has given me the tools to alleviate the stress of holiday planning for busy families – who are often overwhelmed by the abundance of information that is out there. Now as a travel counsellor, I have the industry-leading systems and relationships in place to bring it all together for your peace of mind. My first impression of Travel Counsellors was nothing short of fantastic. My first day was quite special in that it coincided with the UAE annual conference held at the exquisite Park Hyatt in Dubai. It was an inspiring day, featuring engaging guest speakers, a bustling trade show connecting with global suppliers, and a glamourous awards dinner in the evening hosted by our local Dubai celebrity, Kris Fade. In the initial phase of my induction, I studied home-based training modules and attended on-site sessions alongside the remarkable team at the head office in Business Bay. I practised creating enquiries, piecing together quotes, and designing on-brand marketing materials. During my training, I explored the essential concepts and skills required for my role, primarily focused on mastering Travel Counsellors' in-house booking platform. The system is truly remarkable, offering a vast array of options tailored to each client's unique needs. Next, I encountered fascinating insights into the world of travel, some of which took me by surprise. Did you know that the highest-selling destination in the UAE is none other than the UAE itself? This revelation underlines the growing appeal of staycations and exploring the treasures within our borders. One of the perks of booking your staycation with me is that I have contracted rates with some properties and can help with any extras such as birthday surprises, anniversaries or even popping the question! Naturally, the Maldives enjoys immense popularity among UAE residents. Its pristine beaches and overwater bungalows are a testament to its appeal. Choosing the right resort for yourself in the Maldives can be overwhelming, with so many to choose from that have such a variety of offerings. I break it down for you step-by-step, to find the right property for you in this bucket-list destination. Transitioning to a new career path always comes with its share of challenges. One hurdle I encountered was my limited experience in business networking. To overcome this, I took the initiative to join a fantastic female networking group during the summer. The camaraderie and support I've received from fellow members have been immensely valuable. I believe these connections will not only contribute to expanding my client base but also enrich my personal growth. As I reflect on my training, I stand ready and equipped to start as a Travel Counsellor. I understand the unique needs of expat families here in the UAE – I save you time, do the research for you and work with top-notch suppliers to make it happen seamlessly. Already, I've received a handful of enquiries, and I’m eager to create personalised travel experiences for these new clients. So, I'm now officially open for bookings! Give me a call or connect with me via Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or email to begin curating your next adventure together!

It was a real pleasure working with Nicky. I had a last minute family holiday to arrange to Koh Samui and happened to get in touch with Nicky for help and she straightaway said yes, no problem. Unsure of what to book so last minute to best suit our family, with a tween and teenager, I was quite flustered and Nicky had an incredible temperament and patience. After listening to requirements, she made some recommendations and was confident one of them would be just the right mix for our family. I was doubtful of at first but in the end went with the suggestion. When we arrived everyone in our family was super happy and didn’t want to leave when the time came. We wished we had extra nights there. Nicky was absolutely right - everyone loved it. Thanks so much for everything Nicky.

I wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your work and support from the beginning to the end of my recent trip in Sri Lanka. From the point where I booked onto the trip, you provided all the details and guidance that was needed and answered lots of questions about the different optional activities. This has been my first group experience and holiday with G adventures. You worked tirelessly to make sure that I felt comfortable and knew what to expect, even booking my flights and hotel after the holiday had finished. Whilst on the holiday I appreciated that you were regularly there on WhatsApp and when I needed you you quickly replied and came up with a solution. Thank you so much for making sure that me and my friend had the best holiday! Your communication and organisation throughout the whole process has been incredible and I cannot recommend you enough.
