An unforgettable trip through Vietnam with Travel Counsellors

This September, a group of Travel Counsellors got the opportunity to explore the variety of Vietnam, exploring the energy of Hanoi and the scenic beauty of Ninh Binh. With the support of Wide Eyed Tours, the group discovered Vietnam through its food, history, and people, with every detail carefully organised to create a smooth and memorable trip from start to finish.

An unforgettable trip through Vietnam with Travel Counsellors

An elegant start in Hanoi

Arriving in Hanoi, our Travel Counsellors checked into the Sofitel Legend Metropole, a hotel that perfectly blends history, style, and comfort in the centre of the city. Its character and attention to detail made it an ideal base for the days ahead. The trip kicked off with a welcome dinner at La Veranda and Terrace, where everyone came together over a lively BBQ showcasing Vietnamese and Asian-inspired dishes. It was the perfect start to the week; a relaxed evening of good food, great company, and plenty of conversation about the adventures to come.

Exploring Hanoi in style

Sunday was all about experiencing Hanoi from every angle, and there was no shortage of ways to do it. Some took to the streets on classic Vespas, weaving through tree-lined boulevards and hidden lanes, while others opted for vintage Jeep tours, offering a more relaxed view of the city’s landmarks and local life.

As the sun dipped below the skyline, the group reconvened for a street food tour, a delicious immersion into Hanoi’s culinary heart. Guided by local experts, guests sampled everything from crispy nem ran and grilled thit xien nuong to fragrant bun cha and the city’s famous egg coffee.

Cooking, culture, and connection

Monday brought a more relaxed rhythm. Some guests spent the morning mastering traditional dishes during an authentic Vietnamese cookery class, guided by expert local chefs who shared the secrets behind perfectly balanced flavours. Others chose to unwind with spa treatments or explore the boutique shops and hidden cafés that make Hanoi so distinctive. Dinner at Solasta brought everyone together again, with great food and plenty of conversation, rounding off another fantastic day.

A day among mountains and rivers

The adventure continued on Tuesday with a day trip to Ninh Binh, often described as ‘Ha Long Bay on land’. The scenery was spectacular, with towering limestone cliffs, winding rivers, and ancient temples scattered across emerald-green rice fields. Our Travel Counsellors explored the Dancing Mountain, visited serene pagodas, and embarked on a tranquil river boat tour, gliding through caves and waterways framed by dramatic karst peaks. It was a moment of stillness and reflection, showcasing a side of Vietnam that feels timeless and deeply connected to nature.

Celebrating success, together

The trip concluded back in Hanoi with a spectacular dinner in the grounds of the Hanoi Historical Museum, a venue that combined elegance and history in perfect measure. Beneath softly lit trees, our Travel Counsellors enjoyed canapés, a three-course meal, and live entertainment - a fitting finale to a truly memorable experience.

“The Gold trip to Vietnam was simply incredible. Dan and the team at Wide Eyed Tours went above and beyond, adjusting plans effortlessly and making sure everything ran smoothly.” – Mary

04 May 2026

Italy’s capital city rewards a short break done properly. With two full days, you can cover the big sights, eat exceptionally well, and still leave space to get pleasantly lost between piazzas. Base yourself somewhere central so you can explore largely on foot and dip back to your hotel when you need a pause. Here’s a well-paced way to spend your time in Rome, with ideas for what to see, where to eat, and where to stay.

Go beyond the safari and see another side of Africa

04 May 2026

Africa is often introduced through safari, but that’s only one part of a much wider experience. Across the continent, you’ll find coastlines, cities, mountains, and food scenes that feel completely different from one another. South Africa is a good example of this variety, where you can move from beaches to vineyards to historic sites within a relatively short distance. It’s a destination that works just as well for a multi-stop trip as it does for a single base with day trips.

Areas like Plaka and Monastiraki give you a sense of how the city ticks today, while places like the Acropolis remind you just how far back its history goes. With a bit of planning, it is straightforward to balance both sides.
