Immaculate beaches, skyscrapers that glisten in the year-round Arabian sun and amazing activities for all-round entertainment are just a few reasons why more and more families are choosing to explore this fascinating city where Eastern tradition meets Western luxury. With hotels that are resorts in themselves, families can always find entertainment in the form of kids’ clubs, tennis, horse riding, golf and of course, amazing swimming pool and bar facilities. For those who want a taste of what is on offer around Dubai, we have put together a selection of the most exciting and interesting things to do for an unforgettable family holiday in one of the world’s most desirable destinations.
TC Helen tells us why Dubai is in her Top 5 Family Holiday Destinations -
Adults and youngsters experience so much in Dubai, from waterparks to skiing inside the mall, and the Dubai aquarium is not to be missed! Dubai offers luxury holidays with everything you need for a first-class holiday. Atlantis is ideal for families or if you prefer something more laid back, the Zabeel Saray on the palm would suit perfectly.
Enjoy real snow all year round in the wintery world of Ski Dubai. Try skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and an adrenaline-fuelled ride in the Giant Ball run and spiralling tubes. And don’t miss the daily ‘March of the Penguins’, where you can encounter a colony of gentoo and king penguins!
Try dune bashing
Buckle your seat belts for the ultimate action-packed adventure in Dubai’s sprawling deserts. With a choice of morning, evening or overnight tours to suit even the most timid riders, everyone is catered for in this off-road adventure through the golden dunes.
TC Donna tried this with her family -
Our trip was in a new 4WD and there was just us in, which was great. We also went out in our own convey - it was fantastic (I would advise taking a travel sickness tablet before!) We had a brilliant driver who told me a huge amount about the UAE - he even took us to meet local Emiratis and we had dinner under the stars.
Experience skydiving from indoors
For the thrill of skydiving without the 13,000-foot jump, book into iFLY Dubai. This indoor vertical wind tunnel means that even children can experience what it’s like to soar through the air from just 3 metres above the ground – great fun for all the family!
Ideal for children of all ages, KidZania is an indoor play area where children can experience life as a grown up by trying different ‘jobs’ such as firefighters, doctors, beauticians, mechanics and many more.
Get a bird’s-eye view of Dubai
For spectacular panoramic views across Dubai, ascend the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building. With observation decks on the 125th and 148th levels, you really will feel like you’re on top of the world.
TC Amanda has a top tip on when to visit the Burj Khalifa - We visited the Burj Khalifa which is a must as the views are absolutely amazing. The 148th floor is the "Sky at the Top" and I loved every minute. Visiting at dusk gives you the chance to appreciate the height of the dancing fountains and the noises from the water.
Shop till you drop
Visit Dubai’s spectacular malls for everything from high-street favourites such as Debenhams and M&S to exclusive boutiques. If shopping isn’t enough, these out-of-this-world structures also house aquariums, theme parks and ice-skating rinks.
Wander round the souks
Blend in with the locals at one of Dubai’s vibrant souks. Away from the modernity of the city, these traditional Arabian markets offer an insight into Dubai’s Eastern culture, with a wide range of stalls including jewellery, fabrics, authentic spices and perfumes.
Enjoy a novelty dining experience
In Dubai, even a meal out can be an exciting experience! Diners will be ‘transported by submarine’ to a huge floor-to-ceiling aquarium in Al Mahara, the world-renowned seafood restaurant in the Burj Al Arab hotel; or venture into the desert to a Bedouin camp for delicious authentic cuisine and entertainment under the stars.
Relax on the beach
A trip to Dubai wouldn’t be complete without a trip to one of the exclusive beach clubs. With an abundance of sun, sea, sand and surf during the day, and a fun party atmosphere by night, there is something for everyone.
Watch a camel race
Experience this traditional UAE sport from the comfort of the grandstand at Al Marmoom. Watching 20 of these mystical creatures, known as the ships of the desert, sprinting to the finish line really is a sight to behold! But don’t forget your binoculars.
