Introducing our Enriching Escapes

Good travel should be enriching for all. It should bring you deeper into local cultures and give you an authentic taste of a destination; savouring the dishes, the landscapes, and the people that make the special moments along the way, as well as having a positive impact on the communities and environments you visit.

We’ve partnered with The Travel Foundation to develop a new approach to itinerary development – one that works towards tourism having a more positive impact on destinations. These carefully curated trips are designed to bring out the best of the regions you’ll navigate, creating connections and memories that will last a lifetime.

Who are The Travel Foundation?

The Travel Foundation is an international sustainable tourism NGO dedicated to ensuring that tourism has a positive impact on destinations. They work in countries around the world supporting tourism organisations to accelerate change towards a resilient tourism model that puts resident communities at its centre.

Travel Counsellors has been a proud supporter of the Travel Foundation for a number of years and have worked together on several projects around our shared aim of making travel more sustainable.

“We’ve collaborated with Travel Counsellors and destination partners to create a framework for itinerary building that includes more opportunities to support local communities and the environment, whilst reducing negative impacts. The end result is as much about improving the experience for customers as it is about raising the bar on sustainability.”

Rebecca Armstrong, Head of Impact at the Travel Foundation

Who do these itineraries impact?

First of all, there’s you, the traveller. These exciting new itineraries to destinations such as Costa Rica, Cambodia, and Thailand have been designed with the help of destination experts to ensure they include the most engaging and authentic experiences.

Then, there’s the people on the ground, those that you’ll meet along the way (like Marielo) who are using travel to better their lives through inviting visitors in for a taste of their homeland.

And there’s the landscapes and wildlife you’ve travelled to enjoy. Working with the Travel Foundation and our destination partners, we’ve included many activities that help to support preservation of natural landscapes and the creatures that call them home.

Where to stay in the Algarve, from villas to boutique retreats

20 August 2026

Choosing where to stay can completely change the feel of an Algarve holiday. Beyond the region’s larger resorts, there are whitewashed villas overlooking the Atlantic, converted village houses in the countryside, intimate design hotels, and peaceful coastal retreats. From the fishing village of Salema to the quieter landscapes around Vila do Bispo and Lagos, these four stays each offer their own take on southern Portugal, whether you want the freedom of a villa, easy access to the beach, or somewhere small and characterful to come back to after a day exploring.

Trade the beach for the streets of Valletta this autumn

19 August 2026

As summer draws to a close, city breaks come back into focus, and few destinations pack as much into a long weekend as Valletta. Malta's compact capital combines centuries of history with a thriving food scene, waterfront views, and a walkable centre that makes it easy to fit plenty into just a few days. With warm autumn temperatures, open-air cafés still spilling onto the streets, and a calendar of events continuing well beyond peak season, it's an easy choice for anyone looking for somewhere that feels both relaxed and full of character.
