Discovering the Magic of the Seychelles: A Tropical Escape at Hilton Northolme

There’s something very special about the Seychelle. Its a place where time seems to slow down, the air smells of salt and greenery, and the turquoise ocean with its iconic giant granite boulders stretches endlessly before you. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing this island paradise firsthand, and it’s a memory I’ll treasure forever.

The Ultimate Escape: Hilton Northolme My home for this escape was the Hilton Northolme, perched dramatically on the cliffs with endless views of the ocean. From the moment we arrived, Ramy and his team welcomed us with warmth and genuine hospitality. Some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. Every villa faces the beach, so waking up to turquoise blues and a soft sea breeze becomes your daily ritual. With only 56 villas and an adults-only (13+) policy, the resort exudes calm and serenity. The sound of the waves, lush greenery, birds and the surrounding mountains create a magical atmosphere where relaxation comes naturally. Fun fact: a scene from James Bond’s “Die Another Day” was filmed here, and it’s easy to see why. The resort feels like a glamorous, tucked-away secret hideaway. Dining and indulgence are equally exceptional, with three restaurants, two stunning bars, and food that is as spectacular as the views. And don’t miss a massage at Eforea Spa a blissful treatment surrounded by the resort’s stunning natural setting.

Exploring Mahe and its capital Victoria and Local Flavours My adventure began in Victoria, the vibrant capital of Mahé. The Victoria Market is a feast for the senses, colourful stalls overflowing with fresh produce, spices, and handcrafted souvenirs. A short stroll brought me to the Botanical Gardens, a lush sanctuary where exotic plants and giant tortoises coexist peacefully, a perfect introduction to the island’s natural beauty as well as being able to feed their giant tortoises some of which are over 150 years old. For a truly panoramic view, Le Misere Viewpoint offers sweeping vistas over the island and the Indian Ocean. And when hunger called , Maria Annette, a charming local restaurant, served up authentic Seychellois cuisine which is a true local gem and highly recommend going to.

Snorkelling in the Seychelles Late September to early October is a wonderful time for snorkelling. The waters are warm, tranquil, and filled with vibrant marine life. While monsoon season has just ended and visibility isn’t at its clearest, the calm bays of the Seychelles make for a dreamy experience. For optimal underwater clarity, aim for April to May or October to November.

A Full-Day Island Adventure For a true taste of island life, we spent a day exploring the Seychelles’ smaller gems aboard Mason Travel’s catamaran. We visited: Cerf Island, a serene spot perfect for swimming and relaxation. St. Anne’s Island, first inhabited in 1770 and steeped in history. Long Island, once a prison island and now home to exciting new developments. Moyenne Island, lovingly restored and now a national park where we hiked among giant tortoises and reached breathtaking viewpoints, ending at the secluded Coral Cove Beach.

The day included snorkelling, diving, swimming, and a delicious BBQ lunch on board with live music. We finished with cocktails, dancing, and a gentle sail back as the sun dipped below the horizon. Absolute pure island magic.

Final Thoughts The Seychelles is more than a destination. It’s an experience that awakens your senses and leaves you completely relaxed. From the welcoming locals and breathtaking scenery to the luxurious Hilton Northolme, every moment feels curated for serenity and delight. Hand on heart, I can say this is an island escape you’ll never forget.
