The magical island of Bermuda

02 October 2017

Now is the perfect time to explore the place where British charm meets island soul. That’s Bermuda, where proper fun is served up daily. Bermuda is a place of pink sand beaches, rich culture, fantastic food and drink and old-world charm.

Bermuda is just hours from us

The Bermuda experience starts upon descent. You can catch a glimpse of the crescent shaped island as the plane descends. This 21 square mile paradise is composed of 181 islands, and when approaching by air, the explosion of colours – vivid blues, greens and pastels – leaves no doubt that this is indeed a slice of heaven.

Beautiful pink sand beaches

Bermuda is a place where you can do anything or nothing at all. Kick back in the evening and listen to the tree frogs at night or plop down on one of the many secluded beaches with a book and take it all in. You will not believe how many beach options there are. Horseshoe Bay is stunning and consistently ranked as one of the top beaches in the world. There are many more secluded gems where you might be one of three people, such as the ones on Cooper’s Island near Grotto Bay.

Food on the Island

Hungry in St. George’s? A massive and tasty fish sandwich piled high from Art Mel’s Spicy Dicy is literally enough to feed two. Wahoo’s has fresh local fish (check out the baja-style tacos) and salads. Bacardi’s financial world headquarters are on Bermuda, but the island’s signature cocktails are a Dark ‘n’ Stormy made with Gosling’s Rum or a Rum Swizzle from the Swizzle Inn.

Insider tip: if you’re counting calories, order a Dark ‘n’ Skinny, made with diet ginger beer.

If you don’t see Bermuda from the water, you’ve missed half the island

Sailing and water activities are the life-blood of Bermuda’s people. There are lots of ways for you to access Bermuda’s beautiful waters, from simply taking an inexpensive ferry ride from Hamilton over to Dockyard for the afternoon or taking an immersive all-day boating excursion on Uber Vida. You can also snorkel, paddleboard or kayak as well.

There’s something magical about the scent of the wind

Be sure to visit Lili Bermuda on Front Street or even better the Bermuda Perfumery in St. George’s where you can pick up a custom fragrance inspired by the island. You can also have tea or bring your own bottle of champagne to have in their lovely garden.

Rails to trails on Bermuda

The railway laid in the centre of the island in the 1940’s has turned into a chain of walks that run from one end of the island to the other. There are sections ranging from one to three miles. Be sure to request a map so you can take in flora and fauna abound.

Hit the greens

Bermuda offers an incredible number of natural attractions such as pink beaches, coral reefs and diverse animal and plant species. The well-manicured golf courses with the flair of English country manors are an absolute highlight. At approximately 54 square kilometres, there are seven golf courses, marking Bermuda with the largest density of golf courses worldwide.

Green fairways, extraordinary undulating greens, unpredictable winds as well as water obstacles and hidden bunkers make golfing in Bermuda exciting and challenging.
