Launched in 2019 and truly in a league of its own, The World’s First Discovery Yacht™ is unique not only for its groundbreaking design and the six-star luxury that it brings to ocean cruising, but in the sensitive way it uses state-of-the-art technology and amenities to connect its guests with local nature and communities to an unprecedented degree. A sister mega-yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, began construction in May 2020 – watch this space.
Excursions and Discovery
Travelling with two Airbus helicopters each seating up to six guests, and with Scenic Neptune, its own customised submarine, Scenic Eclipse can take you to places you’ve barely allowed yourself to dream about. The choppers bring fjords, volcanoes and other dramatic landscapes to life in a way few travellers will ever experience, while Scenic Neptune can plunge to depths of 300m in ice-cold waters for wildlife encounters beyond your wildest imaginings. Then there are the Zodiacs – RIBs that can cross shallower waters than Scenic Eclipse and navigate obstacles and icy areas to allow you the most intimate of viewing experiences with, for instance, pods of whales and waddles of penguins. There are also kayaks to get you up-close and personal with marine and bird life, and e-bikes for thrilling land tours
As an ocean- and river-cruising company, Scenic is passionate about reducing its environmental footprint both on board and within the local communities it explores in order to help preserve the stunning destinations it visits. Scenic Eclipse adheres to guidelines laid out by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators and International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators to ensure environmentally friendly, safe tourism in these regions. Its cutting-edge features include a low-noise, low-vibration propulsion system so as not to disturb marine life, a GPS dynamic-positioning system to avoid the use of anchors in fragile environments and an on-board water-recycling facility.
With a streamlined aesthetic inspired by the sleek contours of a sailing yacht, Scenic Eclipse balances exploration and adventure with on-board pampering to a level rarely found in any other setting, let alone on a cruise vessel. The spa measures in at an impressive 550m2, and there’s also a yoga studio, a gym, and several outdoor terraces and pool areas. There’s no stinting on the dining experience either, with international cuisines ranging from casual to haute cuisine on offer in no fewer than nine restaurants, and even a champagne bar. Small and intimate is the watchword – especially at the Chef’s Table, an invitation-only dégustation experience for just 10 guests.
Nor will you feel short-changed by the accommodation: the 114 generously proportioned suites all have their own verandas and private butler service, providing luxurious havens after days of excursions and exploration. There’s also an almost 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio in place onboard, meaning you can count on the ultimate in personal attention throughout your trip. And as Scenic’s all-inclusive promise includes flights, transfers and on-board tipping, you can leave your wallet at home and focus on simply relaxing and enjoying your new discoveries and adventures.
Scenic Eclipse’s tempting voyages for 2021 include the 16-day Antarctica in Depth from Buenos Aires, the 15-day Arctic Adventure from Oslo to Reykjavik, and the 18-day, transatlantic Grand Voyage of Discovery from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon. For 2022/23, Scenic Eclipse will visit even more of the most spectacular places on Earth than ever before, with a world-class collection of 48 exceptional voyages across 35 countries spanning six continents. Venture into the wilds of the Russian Far East, explore the inimitable culture of Japan and embark on an epic journey across the fabled Northeast Passage.
