Departure Date: 27/08/2019
Explore Hwange and Kruger national parks and the breathtaking Victoria Fall, three of southern Africa's most phenomenal sites and see the Big Five plus a host of other astounding animals in the wild. Your phenomenal adventure begins in Victoria Falls where you’ll camp for the night before heading to Hwange National Park.
Stopping en route at the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, you will have the extraordinary chance to learn about the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife, human-wildlife conflict and their role in anti-poaching and meet any rescued or orphaned wildlife currently in their care. At Hwange National Park you will explore this spectacular wildlife arena in an open 4X4 vehicle where you will see the unforgettable sight of one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. The next morning, you’ll make tracks for Matobo National Park with a stop at the Painted Dog Conservation Centre. You will learn about the protection of this endangered species and the Hwange ecosystem as a whole before going on to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city, where you can take a stroll through the streets lined with old colonial buildings and stop in at a local cafe or restaurant for lunch before heading to your first camp in Matobo National Park. The Matopos area has great spiritual and cultural significance to the local people and there are many sites within the park where important ceremonies still take place.
The following morning, you will leave for Matobo Hills and your second campsite in Matoba National Park. Home to a large population of black and white rhinoceros, you will have the rare experience of tracking rhinos on foot with the help of your guides. The park is home to klipspringers, leopards, springhares and warthogs and will offer the remarkable chance to spot other game. You can also learn about the various local plant and trees, while discovering San paintings and intriguing rock formations. After another night under the stars, you will depart for Moremi Gorge where you can witness its sheer beauty and abundant birdlife. Depart for Blouberg in South Africa's Limpopo province early the next morning where, at the base of a mountain, you'll find the Hanawa people, many of whom still lead an age-old way of life.
Take a walk with your local guide, following paths along the base of the Blouberg Mountains while listening to stories of the tribe. You'll visit a Lutheran missionary village and be the guest of some locals who will provide an evening meal of local cuisine and their traditionally brewed beer. The following day you will journey to Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Southern Africa that is home to over 500 bird species, 100 species of reptile and 150 mammal species, including the Big Five and the endangered African painted dog. Your remarkable wildlife experience will begin as soon as you enter the park, as you will head straight into prime game viewing areas, glimpsing anything from antelopes and eland to cheetahs and rhinos. Embark on a game drive in the truck the next day and spend the day bird watching and stopping at various waterholes and viewpoints. The following day you begin your homeward journey back to Johannesburg with plenty of time to stop and explore along the way. You will take in amazing vistas at the viewpoint over Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Luck Potholes.
